Game Overview
Super Mario Kart Rider is one of those weird NES hacks that throws kart racing mechanics into a side-scrolling platformer. You still jump on Goombas and grab coins, but now you occasionally hop into a little kart that handles like a brick with wheels.
The first level starts normally—running, jumping—then suddenly you're in a clunky vehicle trying to dodge pits while the physics fight you. It's janky, but there's something oddly charming about watching Mario bump along in what looks like a cardboard box with a steering wheel.
Some stages force the kart sections, others let you ditch it and platform normally. The controls are stiff, and the kart parts feel like they weren't playtested much, but if you're into oddball ROM hacks, Super Mario Kart Rider has that "so bad it's kind of fun" energy.
