Game Overview

The Backyard came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Brøderbund Software. It was a simple, exploratory title from a time when many games focused on straightforward interaction rather than complex stories or high stakes. You just clicked around a static, illustrated scene to see what would happen, which felt typical for the era's point-and-click curiosities.

You control a cursor, clicking on objects and creatures in a single-screen backyard setting to trigger animations and mini-games. The main objective is simply to explore and uncover all the hidden interactions, like making flowers bloom, startling birds into flight, or finding letter-matching activities. There is no timer or fail state, so the pacing is relaxed and entirely player-directed. It feels like poking through a digital pop-up book where every click holds a small, cheerful surprise.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
