I first played The Faery Tale Adventure back in 1987 on MS-DOS, published by MicroIllusions. It was one of those early open-world fantasy games that felt huge for its time, especially on a home computer. The scale was ambitious, and it stood out among other titles of the era for its sense of freedom and exploration.

You control one of three brothers, each with different strengths, and set out to defeat an evil necromancer. The game is played screen by screen, with real-time combat using a sword or bow, and you explore towns, dungeons, and wilderness while gathering clues and items. The pacing is slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving; you have to manage health and resources carefully, and death can set you back significantly. It feels immersive and lonely, like wandering through a vast, dangerous storybook where every decision matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
