Game Overview

The Final Crusade of Kroz came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Apogee Software. It was one of those early shareware dungeon crawlers that felt right at home on a monochrome monitor, relying on simple text characters to build its world. You knew what you were getting into with these games: no fancy graphics, just raw exploration and a lot of guesswork.

You control a small "@" symbol, moving screen by screen through a maze of walls made from pound signs and other keyboard characters. Your goal is to find pieces of a sacred cross hidden throughout the dungeon, all while avoiding or fighting off enemies represented by various letters and symbols. Combat is straightforward; you swing your sword by bumping into foes, but timing and positioning matter because every hit counts. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, as you map out each room in your head and decide when to fight or retreat. It feels like solving a dangerous, interactive puzzle where one wrong move can send you back to the start.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
