Game Overview

The House at the Edge of Time is a 1990 MS-DOS adventure game developed by Infocom. It stands out among text-based games of its era for blending gothic horror with surreal, time-bending puzzles, all within the confines of a single, impossibly large mansion.

You control an unnamed protagonist exploring the mansion room by room, solving environmental puzzles to uncover the house's secrets. The main objective is to find a way to escape, but the house shifts and changes, with objects and even entire rooms behaving differently depending on subtle temporal manipulations. Key mechanics include interacting with objects in detailed, often non-linear ways, and managing a limited inventory of items that might have unexpected uses across different eras. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful observation and logical experimentation, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you miss crucial clues. It feels like being trapped inside an elegant, maddening clockwork puzzle where every solved mystery only reveals three more.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
