Game Overview

Tomb of the TaskMaker came out in 1997 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a freeware release that captured the spirit of early PC dungeon crawlers. It was developed by a small team whose names are not widely remembered today, but the game fits right in with the exploratory, tile-based adventures of its era. You start as a lowly servant in Castle Hall, but things quickly take a turn when the TaskMaker, thought to be long dead, reappears and throws the kingdom into chaos.

You control a custom character, choosing from classes like warrior or mage, and navigate through interconnected, maze-like dungeons screen by screen. Your main goal is to uncover the truth behind the TaskMaker's return, which involves battling monsters with swords or spells, solving environmental puzzles, and gathering key items to progress. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving; secret doors and hidden switches demand careful attention. Playing it feels like piecing together an elaborate, sometimes devious puzzle where every corner could hide a new challenge or revelation.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
