Xargon Trilogy came out in 1993 as a shareware release from Epic MegaGames, back when MS-DOS was the platform for a lot of inventive, colorful action games. It was part of that wave of side-scrollers that didn't try to be the next big thing, just a solid, weird adventure you could get on a floppy disk.

You control Malvineous, an adventurer who explores a mix of caverns, temples, and strange alien landscapes screen by screen. Your main goal is to find the exit in each stage, which often involves careful jumping, hitting hidden switches, and uncovering secret passages. You fight with a sword for close enemies and a limited bow for ranged threats, and you collect keys to open doors while avoiding spikes and bottomless pits. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with instant death hazards, but it encourages memorization and experimentation. It feels like a brisk, challenging trek through a world that's both goofy and dangerous.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
