You control one of the three Battletoads, giant humanoid toads with oversized fists, working through levels screen by screen. The main goal is to rescue your friend and stop the Dark Queen. You punch and kick your way through waves of enemies, but the game constantly shifts gears: one moment you're brawling, the next you're rappelling down a sheer shaft avoiding obstacles, or racing on a turbo bike through a tunnel full of instant-death barriers.
