Play Burai - Hachigyoku no Yuushi Densetsu (Japan) Online
Pick one of eight oddball heroes, then mash buttons to chain attacks in real-time battles that feel more like solving a frantic puzzle than a typical RPG grind. The pixel art pops, the swords are comically huge, and the whole thing moves faster than you’d expect.

Burai: Hachigyoku no Yuushi Densetsu came out for the Super Nintendo in 1990, published by Koei. It was one of the earlier action RPGs on the system, arriving before many of the more polished titles that would define the genre on the platform. The game stood out with its colorful, detailed sprites and a focus on real-time combat rather than turn-based encounters.
You control one of eight warriors, each with unique weapons and abilities, exploring towns, dungeons, and overworld maps. Your main goal is to collect the eight sacred jewels to defeat the evil Burai. Combat happens in real time; you swing your sword or use special attacks against enemies that swarm the screen. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty can spike without much warning, especially in later stages. It feels like a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic scramble where every enemy encounter demands quick reflexes and smart positioning.
