Chronocolor Donkey Kong Clean is one of those weird little miracles—someone actually squeezed a halfway decent Donkey Kong port onto the Atari 2600. Yeah, it’s simpler than the arcade (obviously), but you’ve still got Jumpman scrambling up ladders, dodging those rolling barrels, and making panicked jumps between girders. The colors pop way more than you’d expect from a 2600 game, and somehow it still feels like Donkey Kong, even with the chunky pixels.

It’s a public domain homebrew, so don’t expect Nintendo polish—but that’s kind of the charm. You can tell the person who made this really cared about getting the feel right, even with the hardware limits. If you’ve got a soft spot for janky retro adaptations, this one’s surprisingly playable. Just don’t blame the Atari when you miss a jump for the tenth time.
