Combat Air Patrol came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Psygnosis. It was a time when flight sims were pushing the limits of what PCs could handle, and this one fit right in with its focus on carrier operations and modern jet combat. You weren't just flying; you were managing a whole air campaign from the deck of a Nimitz-class carrier.

You control an F-14 Tomcat pilot, launching from the carrier to intercept enemy aircraft, bombers, and missiles threatening the fleet. The main objective is to complete missions, protect your assets, and make it back to the carrier in one piece. Signature mechanics include managing your aircraft's systems, like radar and weapons selection, and executing precise carrier landings, which are notoriously difficult to get right.
