Play Daryl F. Gates’ Police Quest: Open Season Online

You're Detective Carey hunting a killer—dust for prints, interrogate suspects, and don't botch the evidence or the case goes cold. That grainy MS-DOS vibe makes every crime scene feel uncomfortably real.

Game Overview

Daryl F. Gates’ Police Quest: Open Season is one of those old-school Sierra detective games that doesn’t mess around. You play as Detective John Carey, and right off the bat, you’re thrown into a seriously dark case—your ex-partner and a kid have been murdered, and the killer’s still out there. The game makes you work for every clue, too. Miss a detail at the crime scene? Forget to follow proper procedure during an interrogation? Things can go south fast.

What I love is how real it feels—you’re not just clicking through dialogue. You’ve got to think like a cop, whether that means dusting for prints or making sure you don’t accidentally contaminate evidence. The digitized graphics add this grainy, almost unsettling vibe that fits the tone perfectly. And yeah, you can die if you screw up badly enough, which keeps you on your toes.

It’s not all grim, though. There are little side interactions that flesh out the world, like chatting with witnesses who don’t even matter to the main case. If you’re into methodical detective games where the details actually matter, this one’s a solid time capsule from the MS-DOS era.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
