Defender of Boston: The Rock Island Mystery came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series from Softdisk Publishing. It fits right in with the era's point-and-click adventures, where story and exploration mattered more than flashy graphics. You play a private investigator, not some action hero, which sets the tone from the start.

You control the investigator with a simple mouse interface, moving screen by screen across a moody, confined island setting. Your main goal is to solve a disappearance by collecting clues, interrogating a small cast of suspicious characters, and combining inventory items to overcome obstacles. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
