Game Overview

Dragon Slayer Gaiden is one of those Game Boy RPGs that somehow feels bigger than it has any right to be. You start off in this cozy little village—typical hero stuff—but within minutes you're knee-deep in turn-based fights against dragons that look way too cool for a tiny green screen. The sprites are chunky in that classic Game Boy way, but there's something satisfying about watching your sword swings land with a crunchy little sound effect.

What surprised me was how much they crammed in here. There are secret caves, weird NPCs who actually say funny things, and this one dragon fight where I had to actually think about my gear instead of just mashing attack. It’s got that "just one more level" pull, especially if you’re stuck on a train or waiting somewhere. Not gonna lie, the inventory system’s a bit cramped (it is a Game Boy game), but once you get the hang of it, the whole thing clicks.

If you’ve got a soft spot for 8-bit dungeon crawlers or just miss that particular brand of Game Boy magic, this one’s a total time capsule. I ended up playing way longer than I meant to the first time I booted it up.
