Game Overview

Dungeon, released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, was originally developed by Don Daglow and published by Automated Simulations. It belongs to that early era of PC gaming when text parsers and simple graphics defined the experience, offering a glimpse into the roots of computer role-playing games before complex interfaces became standard.

You control a party of adventurers, typing commands to explore a multi-level dungeon, fight monsters, and gather treasure. The main goal is to survive the depths, mapping each room as you go while managing your resources like torches and health. Signature mechanics include turn-based combat resolved through text input, careful inventory management, and the need to manually draw your own map on graph paper to avoid getting lost. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty is unrelenting, with death often coming swiftly from a wrong move or an unseen trap. It feels like a tense, collaborative effort between your imagination and the machine's stark responses.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
