Game Overview

Field Commander is one of those PSP games that really makes you think—like a portable Advance Wars with a bit more grit. You’re leading a squad of soldiers, tanks, and helicopters across grid-based maps, trying to outmaneuver the enemy before they outmaneuver you. The first few missions ease you in, but by mission five, you’re sweating over every move.

What’s cool is how much variety there is. You’ve got 15 different divisions to pick from, each with their own strengths (I kept going back to the airborne units—nothing beats dropping troops behind enemy lines). And if you get bored of the campaign, there’s online multiplayer where you can test your tactics against real people—or just pass the PSP back and forth with a friend.

Honestly, the mission editor is the hidden gem here. Made a brutal map? Share it and watch your friends suffer. The game’s not perfect—some missions drag—but when it clicks, it’s pure tactical satisfaction. Just don’t blame me when you lose an hour planning the perfect ambush.
