Play Final Fantasy 3 Online
Explore dungeons, switch job classes, and restore light to darkened crystals in this classic RPG adventure.
Final Fantasy 3 came out for the NES in 1990, developed and published by Square. It was one of the later releases on the system, arriving when the 16-bit era was already underway, but it still felt like a substantial step forward for the series. The game built on the mechanics of its predecessors while introducing ideas that would become staples for years to come.
You control a party of four young orphans, each starting with a basic job class that you can change as you find crystals scattered across the world. The main goal is to restore light to the four darkened crystals, which involves traveling across an overworld map, exploring towns for clues, and delving into multi-level dungeons filled with traps and monsters. Two of its most defining mechanics are the job system, which lets you freely switch characters' roles (like turning everyone into a thief to pilfer gil or mixing black mages with knights for balanced offense), and the airship exploration that opens up later regions. The pacing is deliberate, and some dungeons demand careful resource management due to limited healing options. It feels like a game that rewards patience and experimentation with your party setup.
