Guide Cecil and his party through towns and dungeons, battle enemies in turn-based combat, and unravel a deep story while trying to stop a sorcerer from destroying the world.
Final Fantasy IV Advance came out on Game Boy Advance in 2005, a port by Square Enix of the original Super Famicom game. It arrived late in the GBA's life, when handheld RPGs were plentiful, but it stood out for its depth and narrative ambition. This version included some new content, like additional dungeons, though the audio quality differed from the SNES original.
You control Cecil, a dark knight wrestling with his loyalty to a corrupt king, and lead a party of characters through towns, caves, and castles. The main goal involves stopping a sorcerer from destroying the world, which means traveling across an overworld map and delving into multi-level dungeons filled with traps and treasure. Combat is turn-based with the Active Time Battle system, where characters and enemies act as timers fill, adding tension to every decision. The game moves at a brisk pace, with frequent story twists and a difficulty that encourages careful planning in boss fights. It feels like guiding a group of flawed people through a world that keeps testing their convictions.
