Play Flintstones, The - The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy Online

Fred stomps through caves, smashing rocks with his bare feet to rescue his pets from a time-traveling weirdo—just another day in Bedrock. The jumps can be janky, but there’s something oddly satisfying about bouncing off dino heads.

Game Overview

I remember picking up The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy for the NES back in 1991, a game Taito put out based on The Flintstones. It was one of those licensed platformers that felt pretty standard for the era, not trying to reinvent the wheel but offering a solid, if sometimes frustrating, afternoon of play. You control Fred Flintstone, tasked with saving his pet dinosaur Dino and the hopparoo Hoppy after they're snatched by the villainous Gneiss Gneissley.

You move Fred through a series of side scrolling levels, jumping across platforms and punching or kicking enemies like cavemen and pterodactyls. The main goal is to find keys to unlock doors and progress, all while collecting items like bones and gems for points. One of the more unique mechanics involves using Dino's head as a springboard in certain sections to reach higher areas, which can be a bit tricky to time. The game is fairly linear but has a decent pace, though some jumps and enemy placements feel unforgiving. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky adventure that captures the show's vibe without overcomplicating things.
