Joe & Mac came out on the NES in 1991, published by Data East. It was part of that wave of early 90s platformers where everything was bright, loud, and a little bit strange, fitting right in with the console's library at the time.

You control one of two cavemen, Joe or Mac, and your goal is to fight through prehistoric levels to save your kidnapped mates. The main mechanics are straightforward: you move screen by screen, clobbering enemies with a bone club that you can also throw as a projectile. You collect fruit for points and power-ups, like a boomerang or a fire wheel, to deal more damage. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially with enemies swooping in from off-screen. It feels like a messy, frantic brawl from start to finish.
