Game Overview

King of the Monsters on the Sega Genesis is basically what happens if you took Godzilla, gave him wrestling moves, and let him loose in a city made of cardboard. You pick one of six giant monsters—my go-to was always the radioactive-looking Geon—and then proceed to suplex, tail-whip, and fire-breath your way through opponents while flattening buildings in the process.

The controls are simple (grab, punch, special attack), but there’s something weirdly satisfying about timing a giant pile driver just right or watching your opponent get crushed by a collapsing bridge. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially when your monster starts glowing before unleashing their super move. It’s janky in that classic early-90s way, but that just adds to the charm.

Best part? Two-player mode turns it into an absolute riot. Nothing bonds friends like accidentally teaming up to destroy the entire stage instead of each other. Just don’t expect deep strategy—this is pure, dumb monster-mashing fun.
