Man, Legend of Saladir is one of those MS-DOS RPGs that just sticks with you. You boot it up, and suddenly you're knee-deep in this pixelated fantasy world where every village has some weirdo with a cryptic riddle, and half the dungeons feel like they’re actively trying to outsmart you. The magic system’s surprisingly deep—I spent way too long mixing spells just to see what’d happen (fire + healing = regret, apparently).

It’s got that old-school vibe where nothing’s labeled on the map, so you’re scribbling notes like “beware bridge troll” or “merchant pays double for blue mushrooms.” Combat’s turn-based but snappy, and the gear upgrades actually feel meaningful—finding a +2 sword after hours of chipping away at skeletons with a rusty dagger is pure euphoria.

Yeah, it’s janky in places (good luck figuring out that one puzzle with the moon phases without a guide), but that’s part of the charm. If you miss RPGs that treat you like an adult with a brain, Saladir’s waiting.
