Game Overview

Machiavelli the Prince came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by MicroProse. It was a strategy title from that era when games often relied on text and simple graphics to build complex political simulations. You step into the role of a noble trying to unite Italy under your rule, navigating a landscape of shifting loyalties and sudden betrayals.

You control your family's influence across a map of Italian city-states, managing diplomacy, espionage, and military force. The main objective is to eliminate rival families and gain control of all territories. Key mechanics include forming and breaking alliances through negotiation, hiring assassins to remove opponents, and mustering troops to seize cities. The pacing is deliberate, with turns representing months or years, and the difficulty comes from the unpredictable, self-interested behavior of other factions. It feels like a tense, calculated dance where every handshake could hide a knife.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
