Port Man came out in 1990 as an arcade game by Arcade Dynamics. It was one of those late 80s, early 90s titles that felt right at home in a dimly lit arcade corner, surrounded by louder, flashier machines. You control a dockworker who has to move crates from one end of the wharf to the other while avoiding enemies and obstacles. The main goal is to clear each screen of crates before moving to the next, all while dodging patrolling guards and sudden hazards. Key mechanics include picking up speed boosts to outmaneuver enemies and using temporary invincibility pickups to plow through obstacles when things get too crowded. The pacing is relentless; the docks get more chaotic with each level, and one wrong move can get you cornered or blindsided. It feels like a race against the clock where every second counts.
