Play Roberta Williams’ Mixed-Up Mother Goose Online

You wander a fairy tale world clicking through cottages and wells, returning lost items to nursery rhyme characters—one at a time, so choose wisely. The pixel art and scrambled rhymes give it that warm, slightly janky DOS-era charm.

Game Overview

I first played Roberta Williams' Mixed-Up Mother Goose back in 1991, when Sierra On-Line released it as part of their MS-DOS Classic Games series. It was a time when point-and-click adventures were just starting to find their footing, and this one stood out for its gentle, family-friendly approach. The game took familiar nursery rhymes and spun them into something interactive and quietly engaging, without the high stakes or complex puzzles of some other Sierra titles.

You control a small child moving screen by screen through a storybook landscape, visiting characters like Little Bo Peep and Humpty Dumpty. Your main goal is simple: find lost items scattered across the world and return each one to its rightful owner. The mechanics are straightforward—exploration, item collection, and a bit of light problem-solving—but the pacing is relaxed, and the difficulty is low enough for younger players. It feels cozy and unhurried, like flipping through a well-loved picture book where you get to decide what happens next.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
