Play Shadow of the Beast (Europe) Online

Shadow of the Beast looks gorgeous with its eerie music and smooth animations, but the controls are stiff and enemies ambush you constantly—one misstep and you're done. It's hypnotically brutal, no middle ground.

Game Overview

Shadow of the Beast on the Sega Master System is one of those games that looks amazing—until you actually try to play it. The backgrounds are lush, the music is eerie, and the animations are smooth for its time. But man, this thing is brutal. One wrong jump, and you're dead. Enemies come out of nowhere, and the controls feel just stiff enough to make every landing a gamble.

It’s a port of the Amiga original, so it keeps that weird, dreamlike atmosphere—lots of strange creatures and surreal landscapes. But unless you’ve got the patience of a saint (or a save state cheat), you’ll probably rage-quit before the second level. Still, there’s something hypnotic about how punishing it is. You’ll either hate it or respect it—no in-between.
