Game Overview

I picked up The Simpsons Game for PSP back in 2007, a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride with console-like experiences. Developed by EA Redwood Shores and published by Electronic Arts, it was one of those licensed titles that actually tried to do something different, poking fun at gaming tropes while letting you romp through Springfield.

You take control of different members of the Simpson family, each with their own exaggerated abilities; Homer turns into a giant rolling ball of blubber, Bart becomes a sort of superhero with a grappling hook, and Marge can rally a mob with her megaphone. The goal is to collect remote control pieces scattered across levels that parody other games, like a medieval hack-and-slash or a Grand Theft Auto style rampage. You solve environmental puzzles, beat up enemies, and switch between characters to use their unique skills. The pacing is brisk, though some sections can feel a bit repetitive, and the difficulty stays pretty manageable. It feels like playing through a long, interactive episode full of inside jokes and chaotic fun.
