Game Overview

So The Legend of Oasis is that Sega Saturn action-RPG where you play as Leon, this apprentice who inherits a magical golden armlet from his mentor. At first, it feels like a classic top-down hack-and-slash—sword swings, bow shots, the usual—but then you realize the armlet lets you summon elemental spirits to fight alongside you. One spits fire, another heals you, and figuring out when to call them in becomes half the strategy.

What’s weird (but kinda cool) is how leveling works. Instead of grinding XP, you rank up by repeatedly healing yourself after taking damage. Took me a bit to get used to that, but it makes fights feel more deliberate—you can’t just spam attacks and hope for the best. The dungeons are these sprawling, puzzle-heavy labyrinths where the spirits often double as keys or tools, like freezing water to cross gaps.

If you played Beyond Oasis (or The Story of Thor, depending on where you live), this is basically its prequel with the same vibe—just a little more polished. The sprite work’s gorgeous for a Saturn game, and the music’s got that moody, adventure-y feel. Just don’t expect a deep RPG system; it’s more about the action and exploration. The armlet mechanics are what make it stand out.
