Game Overview

The Legend of Oasis came out in 1996 for the Sega Saturn, developed by Ancient and published by Sega. It was part of that era when action RPGs were finding their footing on disc based systems, offering more expansive worlds than many cartridge games could manage at the time. This one is actually a prequel to an earlier Genesis title, Beyond Oasis, continuing its particular style of top down adventure.

You control a young prince named Leo, tasked with awakening four elemental spirits to prevent an ancient evil from returning. Gameplay involves exploring the world screen by screen, fighting monsters with your sword or a bow, and delving into multi level dungeons filled with puzzles and bosses. A key mechanic is summoning spirits to aid in combat or interact with the environment; each spirit has unique abilities, like creating ice blocks or burning obstacles. You also heal at save points to gain experience and level up your health. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking, and the difficulty can spike during boss encounters. It feels like a methodical, hands on adventure where your growing power is tied directly to exploration and smart spirit use.
