Game Overview

I first played Worms on the Super Nintendo in 1995, a port of the PC game developed by Team17. It was a strange and clever little title that stood out on a system known for its polished platformers and RPGs, offering something completely different for after-school multiplayer sessions.

You control a team of cartoony worms, taking turns to maneuver across a 2D landscape and eliminate the opposing team with a huge arsenal of ridiculous weapons. The main objective is simply to be the last worm standing. Signature mechanics include the completely destructible terrain, where every bazooka shot or grenade blast carves out chunks of the earth, and the wind factor that subtly influences the trajectory of your projectiles. The pacing is deliberately slow and thoughtful during each player's turn, which then erupts into brief moments of chaotic, screen-shaking explosions. It feels like playing a darkly humorous game of chess where every piece is armed to the teeth and the board can be blown apart.
