Game Overview

Dexter's Lab: Chess Challenge came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by Ubisoft. It was one of those licensed games that tried to do something a little different, using the show's mad science theme to twist a classic game into something new for the handheld.

You control Dexter, moving his custom chess pieces, like beakers and robots, across the board to capture the opponent's king. The main twist is Dee Dee, who constantly interrupts the game by dancing across the screen, forcing you to quickly tap buttons to shoo her away before she ruins your strategy. The game includes themed boards based on episodes from the show, and the AI provides a decent challenge, especially in later matches. It feels like a chaotic, slightly frantic version of chess that captures the spirit of the cartoon's constant interruptions.
