Game Overview

Dragon History is one of those MS-DOS RPGs that somehow got lost in time—which is a shame, because it’s got this rough-around-the-edges charm that just sticks with you. You start off picking between a handful of classes (I always went with the rogue, though the mage’s fireball animation is weirdly satisfying), and then you’re dumped into a world where dragons aren’t just set dressing—they’ll wreck you if you’re not careful.

The combat’s turn-based, but it’s snappy—none of that endless menu scrolling. And the pixel art? It’s got that chunky, colorful look that makes you forgive how tiny your character is on screen. What surprised me was how much your choices actually matter—pick a fight with the wrong NPC early on, and suddenly you’re locked out of a whole town’s quests. No autosaves here, so save often unless you enjoy replaying the first hour.

It’s not perfect—the inventory system’s a headache, and good luck figuring out some puzzles without a notebook—but that’s part of the appeal. If you miss the days when RPGs didn’t hold your hand, this one’s worth dusting off an emulator for.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
