Play Dragon Isles Online

Pick a dragon, dodge floating debris, and explore weird little islands where goblins throw spears at you—the controls are just janky enough to make it feel alive. That MIDI soundtrack still haunts me.

Game Overview

Dragon Isles is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow got lost in time—which is a shame, because it’s got this weird, wonderful energy. You start off choosing between three dragons (the fire one’s a bit cliché, but trust me, it’s the best pick), and suddenly you’re diving through clouds, dodging floating rocks, and landing on these little islands that feel like they’re hiding something.

The pixel art’s surprisingly expressive—your dragon actually looks annoyed when you make it backtrack—and the controls are just janky enough to keep you on your toes. Half the fun is figuring out which islands are worth exploring and which ones just have another goblin waiting to chuck a spear at you. And yeah, the MIDI soundtrack? It’s been stuck in my head since 1994.

It’s not perfect, but that’s kind of the point. This is the kind of game you play with a grin, even when you die because you misjudged a pixel.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
