Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime came out on the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Square Enix and TOSE. It was a spin-off that felt right at home on the DS, using the touch screen for some of its more frantic tank battles while still keeping that classic Dragon Quest charm intact.

You control a stretchy blue slime named Rocket, and your main goal is to rescue your fellow slimes who have been kidnapped. You explore the world screen by screen, stretching and launching yourself to bounce off walls and reach new areas. Combat is simple; you pick up items like cabbages or pots and fling them at enemies to stun them, then you toss them overhead to carry them back to your base. The real highlight is the tank battles, where you run back and forth loading ammunition into different cannons to blast the enemy tank before it destroys yours. The pacing is breezy and the difficulty is gentle, making it a very relaxed, almost therapeutic experience. It feels like a cheerful, silly playground where every action has a satisfying bounce and clink.
