Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional is basically the beefed-up version of the original, with way more monsters to scout and some extra post-game content that’ll keep you busy for ages. You start off on this floating island where monsters roam everywhere—some will join you if you impress them in battle, others need a little convincing (or a well-timed meat chunk).

The breeding system is where things get wild—mixing two monsters can give you something completely unexpected, and half the fun is seeing what weird combos you can create. Battles are turn-based but surprisingly snappy, and figuring out which skills synergize is weirdly satisfying. The 3D models are charmingly chunky, and the monster designs are peak Dragon Quest: equal parts goofy and cool.

If you’ve played the original, the new stuff like the extra ranks and tougher bosses make this worth another round. Just don’t blame me when you lose an afternoon trying to breed the perfect Slime knight.
