Game Overview

Dragon Quest VI on DS is one of those classic JRPGs that just feels cozy to revisit. You start off as this amnesiac hero (of course) wandering between two parallel worlds—one’s all bright and normal, the other’s this eerie shadow version. The pixel art sprites pop against the 3D backgrounds, and the turn-based battles are as satisfyingly old-school as ever.

What really hooked me was the class system. After a few hours, you unlock jobs like warrior, mage, or even goofier stuff like gadabout, and mixing them leads to some wild combos. The party roster keeps growing too—you’ll recruit a slime knight at one point, which is exactly as ridiculous and charming as it sounds.

There’s even a weirdly addictive curling mini-game (because why not?) and a tag mode for swapping messages with other players. It’s very much a Dragon Quest game—if you’ve played one, you know the rhythm—but the dual-world twist keeps exploration fresh. Just don’t expect the demon overlord to go down without a grind or two.
