Mash buttons in sync with Dirk’s cartoon antics—dodge spikes, leap over pits, and try not to get torched by the dragon. Brutal timing, but nailing a sequence feels like a victory.

Game Overview

Dragon’s Lair on Game Boy Color is basically the OG quick-time event game—before quick-time events were even a thing. You play as Dirk the Daring, this kinda goofy knight trying to rescue Princess Daphne from a dragon’s castle. The whole thing plays like an interactive cartoon, so instead of free movement, you’re hitting buttons at just the right moment to dodge traps, swing swords, or not get roasted by fireballs.

It’s way harder than it looks, honestly. The timing’s brutal, and the animations don’t always make it obvious what you’re supposed to do next. But when you finally nail a sequence after like 20 tries, it feels awesome. Just don’t expect to breeze through it—this game’s from that era where "difficult" was the default setting.

Oh, and the art still holds up! Even on the tiny GBC screen, the cartoon style pops. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy unless you enjoy trial-and-error suffering.
