Game Overview

Dragon’s Lair on SNES is basically an animated movie where you mash buttons at the right moments to keep Dirk the Daring from getting roasted, stabbed, or dropped into a pit. The animation still looks gorgeous—like a playable Don Bluth cartoon—but man, those QTEs are brutal. One mistimed press and suddenly Dirk’s a pile of ashes.

You’ll recognize some scenes if you’ve seen the arcade version, like the infamous bridge with the collapsing tiles or the knight who just will not stop swinging his sword. The European release has language options, but honestly, you’ll be too busy sweating over the timing to notice. It’s frustrating in that old-school way where you’ll keep retrying just to see the next ridiculous death animation.

Fair warning: this isn’t the kind of game you beat in one sitting unless you’ve got the reflexes of a caffeinated squirrel.
