Dragon's Lair for the Sega Genesis was one of those games you'd read about in magazines but never actually see on store shelves. It was developed by ReadySoft, the same team that handled ports for other platforms, but the Genesis version was ultimately canceled, leaving it as a piece of vaporware from that era. It was meant to join a library full of action platformers and arcade adaptations, but it never made the transition.

You control Dirk the Daring, a knight trying to rescue Princess Daphne from a dragon's lair. The game plays out screen by screen, with each new area presenting a deadly trap or enemy that requires quick reflexes and precise timing to overcome. You use your sword to attack foes and interact with objects, while also navigating environmental hazards like collapsing floors and fire-breathing statues. The pace is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing, demanding memorization of each sequence to progress. It feels like a test of patience as much as skill, with every mistake sending you back to try again.
