Game Overview

Dungeons of Kairn is one of those MS-DOS Classic Games releases from the early '90s that never got much attention but still found its niche. It was developed by a small team whose name escapes me now, but it fits right in with the era's fondness for grid-based dungeon crawlers and unforgiving difficulty. You won't find flashy cutscenes or orchestral scores here; just you, a dark maze, and the constant threat of whatever's waiting around the next corner.

You control a lone adventurer delving into a multi-level dungeon, armed with a simple sword and a limited supply of torches. Your goal is to retrieve a series of artifacts scattered across the depths, fighting off skeletons, spiders, and other monsters along the way. The game uses screen-by-screen exploration, forcing you to map your progress manually or risk getting hopelessly lost. Combat is straightforward but tense, with timing-based swings and careful positioning to avoid taking unnecessary damage. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, as you inch forward into the darkness, conserving resources and second-guessing every turn. It feels like a test of patience and observation as much as skill.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
