Game Overview

Final Fantasy IV (originally called FF2 in the US) is one of those SNES classics that still holds up. You start as Cecil, a dark knight with serious moral doubts after his kingdom forces him to do some shady stuff. The story actually gets pretty deep—way more than I expected from a 16-bit RPG. One minute you're questioning orders, the next you're hopping between floating continents, underground dwarf kingdoms, and even a weird artificial moon.

The overworld map feels huge for an SNES game, with airships that actually make travel fun instead of tedious. Battles use the classic Active Time Battle system, where you've gotta think fast before enemies get their turn. Some of the boss fights still stick with me—especially that jerk Rubicante and his fire cloak gimmick.

What surprised me most was how much personality they squeezed into the sprites. Tellah's grumpy old man rants, Rydia's tragic backstory, even the weird Hummingway bunny people on the moon. It's got that perfect mix of epic fantasy and goofy charm that makes old-school Final Fantasy so memorable.
