Play Final Fantasy 2 Online
Control a group of rebels, explore dungeons, gather allies, and level up your characters by using their skills in battles against an oppressive empire in Final Fantasy 2.
Final Fantasy 2 came out on the NES in 1988, developed by Square. It was part of that early wave of console RPGs where the stories started getting a bit more involved, even if the translation was still rough. You could tell they were trying something different here, not just another straightforward quest.
You control a small group of rebels fighting against an empire, moving screen by screen across an overworld and through dungeons. Your main goal is to gather allies and weaken the enemy's hold on the world. Instead of gaining experience points, your characters improve based on what they do in battle; use a sword a lot and your strength goes up, get hit and your health gradually increases. The game can be unforgiving, with frequent random encounters and some brutal difficulty spikes. It feels like a grind at times, but there's a real sense of growth when your party finally becomes strong enough to push forward.
