Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride. You control a party of four characters, customizing their classes and equipment as you travel across an overworld and delve into turn based combat against monsters. Your main goal is to restore light to the world by defeating the Four Fiends in the first game, while the second follows a more character driven story of rebellion. Exploration happens screen by screen, with random encounters leading to strategic, menu driven battles where positioning and spell choice matter. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving if you don’t take time to grind levels. It feels methodical and rewarding to build your party from scratch and slowly conquer each dungeon.
