Game Overview

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls is basically a love letter to the classics, but with enough polish to make them feel fresh. You start with FFI, where you pick your party from the usual suspects—fighters, mages, thieves—and immediately get thrown into that classic JRPG loop of grinding, exploring, and stumbling into towns with weirdly catchy tunes.

The GBA version smooths out some of the rougher edges from the NES days, like the brutal difficulty spikes, and adds these cool new dungeons packed with tougher enemies and better loot. FFII’s here too, with its weird leveling system where you improve stats by actually using them—swing swords to get stronger, cast spells to boost magic. Took me a bit to get used to, but it’s weirdly satisfying once it clicks.

Honestly, if you’ve got nostalgia for pixelated chocobos or just want to see where the series started, this is a solid way to do it. The music alone makes wandering the world map feel like an adventure.
