Game Overview

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride with deep, portable adventures. Square Enix bundled these two classics together, giving players a solid way to revisit the roots of the series without needing to dig out older hardware. It felt like a thoughtful package for anyone curious about where all those chocobos and airships got their start.

You control a party of four characters, picking their classes and guiding them across an overworld map and through turn based battles. Your main goal is to restore light to the world by defeating the four fiends; you explore towns for clues, talk to NPCs to uncover quests, and dive into multi level dungeons full of traps and treasure. The Mod of Balance tweaks the original experience, smoothing out difficulty spikes and rebalancing classes and spells so that no party member feels useless. It keeps the spirit of the originals but removes a lot of the friction, making the journey feel more about strategy and exploration than grinding or frustration. Playing it now, the pacing holds up, and there’s a real satisfaction in building a party that works together through thoughtful preparation and execution.
