Play Final Fantasy XII - Revenant Wings (J) Online
Command tiny armies with swipes and taps, summoning Espers to flank enemies while Vaan’s crew bickers between battles. It’s RTS chess with that FF sky-pirate drama crammed onto the DS screen.
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed by Square Enix. It was a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XII, arriving at a time when the DS was full of ambitious experiments, and this game tried to bring a real-time strategy feel to a portable JRPG.
You control Vaan and his party from a top-down perspective, directing them and the summoned creatures called Espers across battlefields by tapping the touch screen. Your main goal is to complete story missions, which involve capturing enemy crystals and defeating boss monsters. The core mechanics revolve around summoning different types of Espers to form a small army, using a rock-paper-scissors style of elemental strengths and weaknesses to overcome enemy formations. The pacing is brisk, with battles that require constant attention to unit positioning and ability timing rather than deep resource management. It feels like conducting a hectic, magical brawl with your stylus.
