Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed by Square Enix. It was a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XII, arriving at a time when the DS was full of ambitious experiments, and this game tried to bring a real-time strategy feel to a portable JRPG.
You control Vaan and his party from a top-down perspective, directing them and the summoned creatures called Espers across battlefields by tapping the touch screen. The core mechanics revolve around summoning different types of Espers to form a small army, using a rock-paper-scissors style of elemental strengths and weaknesses to overcome enemy formations.
