Gauntlet on the Sega Master System came out in 1987, published by Atari Corporation. It was one of those early console ports that tried to bring the arcade dungeon-crawling experience home, fitting right in with the platform's growing library of action and adventure titles.

You choose from four characters, Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard, or Elf, and venture through maze-like dungeons room by room. Your goal is to survive, find the exit, and gather treasure while fending off endless waves of ghosts, grunts, and demons. You attack with a basic weapon, collect keys to open doors, and constantly hunt for food to keep your health from ticking down. The pace is relentless; enemies spawn continuously, and the infamous voice warning "Warrior needs food badly" becomes a constant companion. It feels chaotic and repetitive, but there's a straightforward, almost meditative rhythm to clearing screen after screen.
