Keroro RPG: Kishi to Musha to Densetsu no Kaizoku came out on the Nintendo DS in 2009 from Bandai Namco. It was one of those many anime tie-in games that filled the DS library, a platform that was home to all sorts of experimental and niche titles. This one throws the frog platoon into a fantasy world, mixing knights, samurai, and pirates into their usual brand of silly trouble.
You control Keroro and his team as they explore towns and dungeons, screen by screen, talking to characters and getting into turn-based fights. The main goal is to gather your scattered squad and stop whatever nonsense they started. Combat uses a timing system where pressing buttons at the right moment powers up your attacks or blocks incoming ones. You also collect various items and gear to customize your party. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty stays pretty manageable, never bogging you down. It feels like playing through a lost, interactive episode of the show.
