Game Overview

Nova 9: Return of Gir Draxon came out in 1991 for MS-DOS, developed by Dynamix. It was one of those space shooters that felt right at home on a beige box monitor, with chunky pixels and a synth soundtrack that tried its best to sound epic. You could tell it was aiming for that arcade feel, but it had the patience for a little more strategy than most.

You pilot a lone ship against the insectoid Draxon fleet, clearing sectors one screen at a time. The key is mining asteroids between enemy waves; you collect resources to buy better weapons, shields, and engines between levels. Without upgrades, you're just target practice. The pacing is relentless, but those quiet moments of resource gathering give you room to plan your next move. It feels tense and satisfying when your investments pay off in a hail of laser fire.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
