Game Overview

Shanghai 2 – Dragon’s Eye is that kind of Genesis game you stumble on late at night and suddenly lose two hours to. It’s mahjong solitaire, yeah, but with this dreamy, almost meditative vibe—layers of painted dragons and pagodas in the background, tiles that make this crisp little clack when you match them. The first time I played, I just kept pausing to stare at the art.

It’s still the same satisfying puzzle loop—clear the board by pairing identical tiles—but they tweaked it just enough. Some layouts twist into weird shapes, and there are these occasional power-ups that let you zap a stubborn tile or freeze the timer. Not that you need them at first, but around stage 5, the game starts throwing curveballs. Suddenly you’re leaning in, muttering at the screen.

If you’ve got a soft spot for ‘90s puzzle games or just want something to unwind with, this one’s a quiet little masterpiece. The music alone feels like a warm blanket.
