Game Overview

Shark Attack on the Atari 2600 is one of those games that shouldn’t work as well as it does—you’re just a diver with a spear, and sharks keep coming. That’s it. But somehow, it’s ridiculously tense. The first time you hear that blooping sound getting louder as a shark charges, you’ll panic and start jamming the fire button like your life depends on it (which, in the game, it kinda does).

The graphics are blocky, obviously, but the way the sharks zigzag toward you makes them weirdly menacing. And the longer you survive, the more aggressive they get—it’s like the ocean itself turns against you. I lost count of how many times I thought I had a rhythm going, only to get blindsided by a shark from the side.

It’s not deep, but it’s the kind of game where you’ll keep saying “one more try” until you realize half an hour’s gone by. Perfect for when you want that old-school arcade rush without any fuss. Just watch out for the sharks—they’re faster than they look.
